We offer a variety of walking or riding guided educational tours that include historic New Mexico homesteads, fauna and flora native to New Mexico, birding, wildlife photo safaris. We also offer “off ranch” adventures to New Mexico historic sights and cultural events. There is also the option for multi-day New Mexico tours tailored to your desires such as Ancient Indian Cliff Dwellings, Indian Frontier Forts, Historic New Mexico Hotels, Lodges and Saloons. New Mexico Birding
Birding at Wheaton Creek Ranch: The diversity and wilderness quality of our landscape lends itself perfectly to attract a wide range of feathered friends. Between the foothills of grass prairie (7,400’) and the high mountain mesas of aspen / mixed conifer (9,300’) you will find 3 perennial riparian stream systems and over 25 mountain lakes/ponds. It’s a beautiful place to be with an opportunity to encounter well over 200 birds on your list.
Hiking & Camping in New Mexico
Hiking and Camping at Wheaton Creek Ranch: Whether you’re a day hiker exploring the many trails that are easily accessible from our various trailheads or wanting to experience a multi-day packing and camping trip into the ranches most primitive areas, you will find a wide variety of beautiful landscapes and environments here at Wheaton Creek Ranch. Our trails range from vehicle accessible to abandoned roads to primitive trails. The best part of it all is with over a hundred miles of trails we can normally plan your trip to be shared with four-legged creatures rather than other two-legged ones.
New Mexico Mountain Biking
Wheaton Creek Ranch Mountain Biking: The web of old abandoned logging roads built some 70 plus years ago make up the beautiful and exhilarating trail system on the ranch. Ride through rock canyons along a babbling brook as it opens into an expansive mountain meadow, or past crystal clear mountain lakes and into a tree covered trial disappearing into conifer and aspen forests, or take the “express” to the headquarters 5 miles downhill all the way, or take your pick of scenic road loops 5, 10, 20, 30, 50, or 100 + miles.
